Every day, May 1–June 21. Three pianos painted by U-M students are available at different locations throughout Ann Arbor for anyone to play an impromptu concert. On May 1, world-renowned local boogie-woogie & blues pianist Mark “Mr. B” Braun plays a concert at each of the 3 locations. Also, scheduled concerts by local pianists TBA every Wednesday and Saturday (see a2sf.org). The project culminates with a grand finale piano trio performance on June 21 at Top of the Park. Around 1,300 people ages 5-90 attend this popular family affair. This year’s event offers 5K and 10K chip-timed races along beautiful tree-lined streets, as well as a half-mile kid-popular “fun run” ($5) around the park. This year's featured runner is bestselling author and U-M law professor Barbara McQuade. With an appearance (weather permitting) by a robot dog, as well as live music by the local classic rock band Ain’t Dead Yet. Awards for the top male, female, and nonbinary finishers in each age group. Proceeds benefit Burns Park PTO programs. We Are Stars (11:30 a.m.) explores the secrets of our cosmic chemistry and our explosive origins, connecting life on Earth to the evolution of the universe. The Sky Tonight (12:30 & 2:30 p.m.) is an exploration of the current night sky, with tips on how to find the cardinal directions, constellations, and planets on your own. Sea Monsters (1:30 p.m.) follows a curious dolichorhynchops (an extinct species of marine reptile) as she travels through the most dangerous oceans in history. It is somewhere between tango, modern dance, aikido, wrestling, gymnastics, and none of the above, and usually takes place without music. Organizers of the original Water Hill Music Fest decided to end their run a few years ago, but some musicians in the neighborhood have organized themselves to maintain the tradition of performing on front porches and in yards and driveways on the first Sunday in May. She-Bop (4–5 p.m., 300 block of Spring St.) is a girl-group-style ensemble fronted by vocalists Laurie Lounsbury, Carol Shaw, and Sarah Sands that performs new and old songs in 3-part harmony. We’re honoring Cinco de Mayo with a celebration of all things Mexican in cocktails! You’ll mix with tequila and mezcal and learn about what makes them different. You’ll also explore some classic Mexican flavors through Ancho Reyes chile and Nixta corn liqueurs.

Your booking includes light snacks (pretzels, nuts). The Last Word is closed during the class, so no food service is available. The class includes a combination of history and stories, technique instruction, and hands-on making of cocktails. Plus sampling, of course! Total consumption is equivalent to around 2 cocktails per person over the 2 hour class.
