The Ark: Global Jazz Project

Upbeat, inspirational contemporary jazz by a quintet of Detroit- area jazz veterans: saxophonist Mark Hershberger, percussionist Muruga Booker, pianist Andy Szadyr, guitarist Michael Colone, and bassist Richard Smith. The Metro Times calls their music “high-energy contemporary funk and traditional jazz with a global interpretation.” $12.50. [venue info]

The Blind Pig: Neutral Uke Hotel

NYC band led by singer-songwriter Shawn Fogel that plays a ukulele arrangement of the experimental indie rock band Neutral Milk Hotel’s entire 1998 CD In the Aeroplane over the Sea. Opening act is Stereopharm, a Wayne psychedelic rock trio. [venue info]

The Habitat Ultralounge: Dave Hamilton

The Savoy: The Parkington Sisters.

Experimental chamber pop-rock featuring vibrant string arrangements and gorgeous vocal harmonies by this acoustic quintet of classically trained sisters from Cape Cod. Opening acts are Lake Folk, a local acoustic Americana string quintet (cello, bass, banjo, guitar) whose repertoire includes murder ballads and other dark traditional songs, and Annie Palmer, an Ypsilanti pop-folk singer-songwriter. 8-11 p.m. [venue info]
