There's plenty of art and art fairs in Ann Arbor those other 361 days a year. A busy museum and gallery circuit provides many openings and shows to choose from. Each month you'll find antique shows, charity sales, and community festivals.

"Mochitsuki": U-M Center for Japanese Studies.

See review. All invited to help prepare mochi, a traditional New Year's sweet sticky rice cake. Also, live music on the harplike koto and shakuhachi flute, origami and New Year's calligraphy demos, storytelling, and games. International Institute Gallery, SSWB, 1080 South University.
